Review of Dust Devil (1992) by Nate W — 06 Jul 2008
A very strange film indeed. It is in many respects quite attractive. But it has some seriously rough edges. The storytelling is in some instances just painfully tedious. It can't really settle on if it is going to be a supernatural ghost story or just an odd road movie.
I think this film in many ways reflects the mind of the (at the time of filming back in 1990-91) young and upcoming weirdo-director with a reputation, Richard Stanley. He had just had surprise hit with the low-budget sci-fi flick Hardware, and was probably very much left to his own when making this one.
A dream project turned sour, I think. Still it's well worth watching, I've seen worse follow-ups.
