Review of Dunkirk (2017) by T T — 08 Aug 2017
Watching this movie (on a subject of great interest to me) has reinforced my belief that the professional "movie critic press corps" has been bought off by big money Hollywood studios. Not only did I learn nothing new about what actually happened historically, the movie failed on just about every level I can think of.
Is it too much to ask that a good story have a beginning, a middle, and an end? I don't know much about the Producer/Director/Writer (did I leave anything out?), but I suspect he suffers from "Orson Welles Syndrome", wherein a talented director achieves early success with one big film, is acclaimed as a genius, and loses sight of of his craft, in pursuit of more acclaim.
(Directors like Quentin Tarantino and David Lynch come to mind.).
