Review of Dunkirk (2017) by Larry H — 30 Jul 2017
Seeing the film in 70mm IMAX was truly one of the most visceral moving-going experiences of my life. The sounds of gunshots are deafening, much louder than any other gunshot put to film. Roaring planes flying overhead the beach create a noise so intense that it shakes the IMAX screen and your seat along with it.
The sound and visual design mix together to do whatever it can to fully immerse you into the experience. It's as if I was on the beach waiting to be saved; I was in the sinking ship swimming for dear life in fear of drowning; I was flying a fighter plane trying to shoot down the enemy spitfires.
This is pure virtual reality without the need of hi-tech goggles.
