Review of Duck Soup (1933) by Chad H — 07 Jun 2008
Not since the Greeks and The Trojan Women have we seen such a complete lack and total disregard for the futility, fatality, fallacy, and fickleness of war and government. The Marxes pulled out all the stops in this 1933 parody on modern warfare.
Freedonia is driven to the point of destruction by his Excellency Rufus T. Firefly (Groucho) because someone, who happens to be the Ambassador of the country Slyvainia calls him an upstart. The absurdness of this event plunges the countries into war and off we go to make fun of the battlefield and the likes of Washington, Paul Revere and on and on till the zany end.
