Review of Duck Soup (1933) by Cam R — 22 Jun 2008
Utterly Hilarious. If you thought the loony-toons were funny as a kid, see who they stole it from (though I'm thinking of Horse Feathers when I think of the 'sawing-a-hole-in-the-floor-to-escape' bit). The fact that it's real people doing the same stunts is hilarious. As an adult, I wish I had seen The Marx Brothers before Bugs Bunny.
That aside, Groucho's non-stop punny witticisms, Harpo's skillful art as a silent clown and Chico's clever attitude are all well deserving of their legendary status. Satirizing war, The Brothers are at the top of their game in Duck Soup. This one is a timeless classic for good reason.
