Best way to describe Drugstore Cowboy is a pretty uninteresting film with great direction and acting. Van Sant shot the hell out this. It definitely delivered a Rocky type feeling of the 70's to it, except this was shot in Portland, not Philly.
He uses his colors brilliantly throughout. He's almost a modern day Kubrick. While My Own Private Idaho (Van Sants 3rd film) is a freaking masterpiece from beginning to end, Drugstore Cowboy had many very slow parts and the story developed even slower.
...a lot of irrelevant scenes. Matt Dillon is pretty good as the lead. The rest of the cast is pretty good too....good character development. This just wasn't my cup of tea and I normally love Gus Van Sant.
