Let's be truthful, the book was not that interesting given the subject matter and showcased 7th grade writing work. The film is perfectly-opposite its source material. 'Drugstore Cowboy' is an original work of art by the greatest living indie-American director Gus Van Sant.
Matt Dillon gives one of the most memorable movie performances to one of films most memorable movie anti-heroes and is only surpassed in perfection by my favorite film cameo ever: Willaim S. Burroughs as a junky priest.
It's the most honest and least pretentious film on drug abuse and its users. Ever.
