Review of Drive (2011) by Joseph P — 13 Oct 2013
Easily my favorite film of 2011 and probably my favorite film in the past 5 or so years. And it's done so effortlessly on a $15mil budget, unlike some Michael Bay clusterfuck that would use twice that on one forgettable scene.
'Drive' proves you can make a great film with a simple screenplay, just a few effective characters, a short run time and without deep pockets. Drive relies on great sound, music, editing, direction and of course acting.
Every actor absolutely nailed their character, most notably Gosling, Mulligan and Albert Brooks. Cranston, Isaac & Perlman were all solid too though. Overall I feel this was very much overlooked at the Oscars, but I'm ok with that because I'd much prefer this go down as a cult classic.
My one complaint is after you've watched this a time or two, the scenes are a little overly drawn out. Other than that this movie absolutely oozes bad-assery.
