Review of Drive (2011) by Marshall W — 03 Jan 2019
Buckle up we're in for one hell of a ride. Nicolas Winding Refn the director of Drive uses his unique sense of style which has the ability to immediately encapsulate an audience. The narrative of Drive is simple but the story is not dependent on dialogue; the film uses cinematography in order to portray the mood and further plot points.
Although Drive does not offer much in terms of twist and turns which are typically seen with crime/heist films. The film advances the genre by providing a stylised, character-driven film is not typically seen within this genre.
The film is a unique viewing experience but it may not be for everyone. Focusing on the style the film does not include many action scenes. That would be perfectly fine if the film wasn't marketed as an action-filled narrative.
The film is slowly paced which may lose some viewers attention throughout the middle portion of the film where it seems to slow down exponentially. Overall, Drive is not a Hollywood blockbuster but it pushes the boundary of an old film genre.
