Review of Drive (2011) by Aaron A — 05 Jan 2014
This film is brilliant, great tension, presented beautifully and a brilliant soundtrack (love the track 'A Real Hero'). I'll be honest the film was not what I was expecting, I was expecting something a bit more mainstream (this isn't a bad thing), what this is though is a gritty thriller which does take a while to get going but it is worth it.
As I said previously the soundtrack is brilliant and helps give the film the retro feel that others have mentioned. Now. On that topic, I like the way it is presented but why not have it set in the 80s to begin with? From the outset the film definitely has an 80s feel yet it's set in the modern day... doesn't add to me...minor niggle though. My other niggle is I felt the violence was more brutal than needed and for it me cheapened the film a bit. Nothing wrong with the violence itself, I just felt it was out of place in what I think is an otherwise stylish film.
All in all I loved it though! I would have given it 5 but the film was just missing something for me.
