Review of Drive (2011) by Devon D — 01 Jun 2018
One of my favorite movies of all time. Although widely unknown (for the worse of society), I came across this film after reading a four/four star review in PEOPLE magazine. Knowing nothing about the movie, I saw it anyways and was completely blown away.
This Neo-noire film shows Ryan Gosling at his best performance. He's appears quiet and soft, but is quite the opposite. This film is beautifully violent and beautifully shot. With this movie, you expect car chase scenes and driving scenes that are completely unrealistic and preposterous (Fast & Furious), but what we get is a realistic take on a getaway driver and the troubles he faces for being a getaway driver.
The movie is not so much about him as a getaway driver, but the complications he faced when a particular job goes awry. People might feel like the beginning is a little slow, but trust me and be patient.
The slow atmosphere builds up to the ultra-violent and emotional second half of the movie.
