Review of Drive (2011) by Rafael L — 30 Jan 2014
This is how character development should be done. This is how you make a thriller without jump scares, just using the environment. This is how you make a movie. Drive is the perfect example of going back to a genre forgotten by filmmakers now a days and revive it using new techniques, but keeping the core element of it.
This film has the brilliant direction of Nicholas Winding Refn, who has the ability to tell a story using a few lines of dialogue and focusing on the characters and their relationships; those elements with the help of Larry Smith's cinematography, gave as a result one of the prettiest films of the 2000's, with a great image composition that respects the laws of photography and uses de light and shadows as a dramatic tool, the neo-noir.
The score by Cliff Martinez is as powerful as the images shown, and combined with the techo soundtrack, transforms the movie into a delight of every sense. A classic tale of redemption and family told in a very unique way, make Drive one of the best films of 2011 and my personal favorite.
