Review of Drive (2011) by Frank V — 27 Jul 2014
"You know the story about the scorpion and the frog?".
This film could be the best film of the 2010's so far, rivaled only really by Inception. Nicholas Winding Refn delivers a stunningly beautiful film with a story a 10 layers deep, acted impeccably. I truly believe this is the best blend of Art-house and action. The casting is completely pitch perfect, I would have wanted no one else in the roles tht there were. And all of them, Ryan Gosling (giving his best performance to date), Carey Mulligan (giving her best performance to date), Bryan Cranston, Albert Brooks, and Ron Perlman all suffice with no weak links. This is a film of meticulous subtlety and it makes it all the better for it. The story is full of symbols and very important pieces of dialogue passed off as just chit chat. Through and through this beautiful gem of film-making invades your thoughts and sticks with you for some time. 5/5 Strongly, strongly recommend.
