Review of Drive (2011) by John Eric D — 02 Jun 2015
You know what works in this film? You combine Gosling's character with an 80's like musical vibe in a Nicolas Winding Refn system. That's how the magic goes. Gosling stars as the "Driver" is one of the most soft spoken character but with a strong charisma.
Strong by means, he gets down to business. I've seen him act in some of his movies, but this one, he just nailed every performance. He is so good in this portrayal. Just watching his character, you would think, he is so silent yet he has too many intentions in his mind.
The guy is so intense to watch. Refn knows best in here. The slow paced camera angles, and the soft tone dialogues (which is not much) has a lot of meaning to it. Execution wise, it is impressive which is easy to watch.
No shaky cams or whatsoever. The only scene that bothers me till now is the elevator scene. I'm not going to spoil anything, but that's just it. Everything else is brilliant. Well made thriller that reminds us, how good old action thrillers should be made.
One of my favorites. 4.5 stars out of 5.
