Review of Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection 'F' (2015) by Lostankh — 11 Aug 2015
Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection F is entertainingly bad, and should be ashamed of having the title of Dragon Ball Z. It's one of the most awkward Dragon Ball Z movies I've seen to date, and that's saying something since there are more than a dozen movies.
The plot is structured so terribly and does not incorporate what makes Dragon Ball Z, the action-anime that has inspired several titles that came after it. It tries to incorporate more humor to keep the audience's attention, and while a good majority brought a smile to my face, it eventually lead to nervous laughter. The animation looks great, seeing your favorite Dragon Ball characters on the big screen in action, but the small amount of CG was pretty cringe-worthy.
Which leads to why I didn't like the movie; it didn't feel like the Dragon Ball Z I knew. What I mean by that, is there was no struggle, no wall for Goku to climb with the stakes raised higher than ever before. Freeza was threatening for a very short time, until the movie decided to make his return a complete joke. The film acknowledges our two main character's flaws, but they don't really change by the end of the movie, or if they did, it wasn't executed well.
I'm sure Dragon Ball Z fans will enjoy the film for what it is, I just didn't enjoy it because of how far it departed itself from it's roots.
