Review of Dracula (1958) by Brian S — 14 Sep 2011
While I would still classify this as pretty generic mid-century horror, it's a noticeable cut above the rest. the story is a very faithful adaptation of Stoker's novel, and the production quality and color film catapult it beyond a conventional B-movie.
there's also some solid suspense and even a bit of gore (even if it is only a bleeding wound or two). I wish Christopher Lee had more screen time, because his presence is so commanding. Cushing is just as engaging--he probably would have made a fine Dracula in his own right, but I liked his Van Helsing too.
not much of a wow factor in this movie, but I enjoyed it well enough.
