Review of Dracula (1958) by Bheema D — 11 Jun 2015
With scenery and lighting that give the film an artificial and unsettling atmosphere - something that would be recurring in Hammer films - Cushing and Lee's iconic roles, bombastic music, allusions to more sophisticated topics without elaboration, and use of gore, pushing the envelope for directors like Hitchcock and Romero to later push further, Horror of Dracula (or, Dracula) is one of Hammer's finest and thrillingly entertaining.
I hesitate to give it a 4.5 star rating because of some novel-like dialogue and an uneven narrative, but by the end of the film, you won't give a damn about any of its faults - you'll just marvel in this unique, and morbidly slow spectacle.
