Review of Dracula (1958) by Walter C — 03 Feb 2008
Bloody Dracula film from the Hammer Studios. At its best it can be dreamlike, horrifying, or campy; at its worst it is unfortunately dull. The design is quite remarkable, however, and there are bits that are quite effectively executed--a terrifying, astonishing rape-like attack, the frightening (and at least somewhat repulsive) finale, and Jonathon's stay at the castle are all memorable.
It's fun to see Cushing and Lee, even if neither is anything special here.
