Review of Dracula (1958) by Kristen T — 05 Oct 2010
A horror classic that you'll find on dozens of Great Movie lists. Which probably contributed to my utter disappointment in this film. All I saw was mediocre to bad acting (except for Peter Cushing), lazy storytelling, and what ultimately amounted to a boring, low-budget stage play.
Christopher Lee is terrific. I'm a fan. But I found his Dracula to be stiff, wooden, and unsexy. Surely, I must be missing something. I so wanted to like, and even love, this film. And I tried. Really I did.
Even the boyfriend (who is a big horror fan AND loves the book) didn't like it. Sorry Mr. Lee, but my neck still belongs to Bela Lugosi.
