Review of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (1941) by Curtis H — 30 Dec 2011
Spencer Tracy is completely unconvincing as a British doctor. That said, he gives the evil Mr. Hyde a devilish new spin and an extra bit of genius in this fun, but campy thriller classic. Suprisingly the worst performance of the film is that of Ingrid Bergman who cannot decide whether she is German, Cockney, Swedish, or Irish.
Admittedly very 1940's, the golden age of Hollywood made a disturbing shocker into a fun and polished adaptation. It has a rather regretable, unfulfilling ending.
