Review of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (1941) by Gregory W — 15 Aug 2008
Watching this after the 1930s version is like taking a course in what the Code did to films. With the exception of one or two great shots, and the presence of some great actors (who are horribly miscast), this movie is pathetic.
It's how not to remake something 101. The makeup and camera effects pale with the original even though it's a decade later. The dream sequence is possibly the only thing of any interest really.
Tracy doesn't even attempt an accent, and Bergman's attempt at cockney is horrible.
