Review of Down in the Valley (2005) by Amy — 04 May 2008
A film that contains innumerable references to other films, particularly Taxi Driver. Despite this hyper-reflexivity, it somehow manages to stand as a work of its own, and very successfully too. Norton's performance is as engrossing as always, seamlessly shifting between the balanced, 'normal' individual to the off-kilter, impotent menace that defines his character.
An impressive and involving film that I look forward to discussing with others.
