Review of Down in the Valley (2005) by Peter R — 14 Nov 2009
This must be Edward Norton's finest performance, his troubled cowboy trying to fit in in modern day LA is mesmerising. Norton's Harlan is naive and so likeable that even as he desends into chaos in the final acts you can't help but feel for him and even root for him.
The film isn't without it's flaws but overall this is original and beautifully shot. Peter Sallet's western style songs are a perfect match and there is plenty of chemistry in the bittersweet relationship between Norton and Evan Rachael Wood.
