The big surprise of this movie is John Lurie, who has as much grace and rhythm and authority as any recent actor I can remember. Like one of the old-timers - a lot like Bogart - he is beautiful to watch doing simple things. Walking, for instance. And his line readings are dead perfect.
Otherwise, this is a very good Jarmusch film. You probably already know whether you like his aesthetic or not - if you do, this is well worth a rental. If you don't, it's a pretty good one to start with.
