Review of Down by Law (1986) by Jj M — 16 Oct 2010
A film about deadbeat characters and deadbeat places, the photography is briliant just as it was in Stranger than Paradise but what lets this film down as opposed to StP is its farcical elements. I can't get away from the fact that the logistics don't add up (they escaped from prison pretty handy) and plus, I find Roberto Benigni really annoying.
Still, Waits and Lurie are its saving grace. Should have been more of Waits Spit and Shake music thrown in though.
