Review of Double Indemnity (1944) by Sumit S — 28 May 2013
Bordering on the tense atmospheres usually present in Hitchcock's thrillers, Double Indemnity is one of Billy Wilder's brightest works in the film-noir genre, this time a crime drama featuring an insurance salesman seduced by a rich woman into one of her evil plans.
Brilliantly plotted & directed, & wonderfully performed by Fred MacMurray who played the insurance salesman Walter Neff and Barbara Stanwyck playing Phyllis Dietrichson, a greedy, cold partner of a wealthy husband.
Also, not be forgotten are strong supporting performances & the manner in which the whole plot is carried out with control. Overall, a clever piece of work from director Billy Wilder, that, in spite of revealing about its plot to the viewers in the opening sequence still manages to create its own moments of suspense.
