Review of Donnie Brasco (1997) by Patrick M — 08 Jun 2009
Going into this movie I had no idea what it was about... I wish I could do that more with movies. Once again, even though I know it doesn't mean much when it comes to holleywood, the face that it was 'based on a true story' really helps the experiance of watching the movie.
This is a pretty damn good cast, even thought most of the characters play the same people they allways do, for example, Al Pacino and Michael Madsen. Although, just because you've seen them do these type of roles before, doesn't mean there not damn good.
I feel that Johnny Depp did outstanding in his proformance, everything from his great cemestry with Al Pacino to his rollercoaster of emotions he is forced to go through. Still on the topic of casting it was kinda funny and nice to see Tim Blake Nelson and Paul Giamatti cast in such minor roles, both of whom I really enjoy as actors.
As a viewing time of around 2 hours, the movie runs just alittle long for my liking, but that really is the big flaw with the film. It has all the elements you could need for a good gangster/crime darma, so in my book it will go down as a top 'classic' in that genre of film.
