Review of Donkey Punch (2008) by Jonathan G — 17 Nov 2008
Donkey Punch starts off with potential and then, by the second half goes, if you'll excuse the pun, overboard. Any sense of reality within the terms set by the movie is lost and with each twist comes another snort.
Any of the characters developed in the first half become irrelevant because they no longer resemble themselves. The ending leaves too many loose ends flapping about when most of the duration of the film has been spent raising the 'what are they going to do when they get ashore' questions.
Having said all that, the direction is superb and the events that transpire, however implausible, are deftly handled and pack a, excuse the pun, punch. Oliver Blackburn is one to watch. A mixed bag then, but certainly better than torture porn.
Hell, anything's better than torture porn.
