Review of Dominion: Prequel to The Exorcist (2005) by Dan S — 13 Sep 2007
It was interesting seeing what is essentially the same movie filmed by two different directors because they are both very different. This - the original film by Paul Shrader that Warners hated - is much closer to The Exorcist in style and pace than Renny Harlin's 'The Beginning'.
However, it is too symbolic for its own good and doesn't link itself too well with Friedkin's classic horror. Harlin on the other hand made sure his film was much more closely linked to the original 1973 film, but he lost the slow-burning dread of the original script.
Overall, both films have their good points but ultimately fail, as was always expected, to live up to the film they prequel.
