Review of Dolphin Tale (2011) by Kris L — 01 Feb 2012
Another family film about a lovable creature with a story to tell. Although, there's no doubt that the movie is heartwarming and cute at times, I felt as if I had seen this movie already. I can't help but notice obvious parallels between "Dolphin Tale" and 1993's "Free Willy.
" Now then, just to keep this short, the movie is okay--I didn't find it very amusing but it is certainly something that the kids will love. The acting is decent, the visuals were better than I expected, and it could have used more character development but this film is about the tail-less dolphin, Winter.
To most movie-goers, there are no surprises in this movie and to those of you who are reading this, I can't say that it's likeable or even watchable. I would give this movie a negative review, but seeing as how it is a kid's movie--I can't exactly call it horrible.
However, I am sick and tired of these "animal movies" that actually promote "anti-animal products" such as Morgan Freeman proudly showing off his chili burger and Nathan Gambler (Sawyer, the main child actor) claiming that milk is made of "all natural ingredients.
" As ludacrous as it is to feed a Dolphin cow milk, what's next? Are we going to start drinking Giraffe milk and giving it to our dogs and cats? I just don't understand why these types of films present the consumption of one animal as okay and then portray another animal as cute and "human-like.
" Anyways, Dolphin Tale is a great family film, sure it's recycled material but it gets the job done.
