Review of Dogtown and Z-Boys (2002) by Ay C — 26 Jan 2008
Beautiful, fascinating, and tender B&W and color documentary. Snapshot history of LA; a moving, slicing work of art; a surf film; a skate film; and a very personal drama. Several mini-stories of growing up and how people's lives evolve.
So many interesting ideas in the film - one of many that touched me was how the skaters took the pain, anger, confusion from the rest of their lives plus raw materials of LA and poured the energy into skating.
The result is raw, exhilarating art. Knockout soundtrack.
