Review of Dogtown and Z-Boys (2002) by Tim C — 23 Nov 2011
The history of skateboarding's progression from 60s circus act to the X Games sport it is today told by the Californian pioneers. With one of the Z Boys Peralta at the helm it means we get unprecedented access to the Zephyr Crew and to anyone with even a passing interest in skating it's enthralling stuff.
However when we get to anything that might be controversial or a little dark Peralta pulls away or doesn't push the subject so we never get to really see anything beneath the on-the-surface tales of surfer boys rags to riches on a skateboard.
It's still a great watch though, and some of the pool skating is majestic.
