Review of Dogtown and Z-Boys (2002) by Michael H — 09 Mar 2015
Before the X-games, skateboarding found its first heroes near Venice Beach California. These skaters were known as the Z-Boys, their neighbourhood Dogtown. Lots of great footage was uncovered. The documentary really delves into the subculture, rather than just showcasing cool moves.
Peralta finds a way to really personalize the pursuit of skating excellence, the motivations that drive these people. A great piece of documentary filmmaking.
