Tremendously naturalistic film-making that captures the sweaty, claustrophobic atmosphere of a desperate afternoon brilliantly.

After only a few minutes it becomes clear these robbers are lonely, alienated souls struggling to survive. The bank staff represent decency and compassion, who seem to care for and almost wish them success. The police are shifty, gun-toting, angry and not to be trusted. The crowds outside seem similarly disturbed and disturbing, turning on the police and each other.

It's very bleak, as the whole enterprise seems doomed from the start, and it's a long, hot descent from the sweltering afternoon into the darkness of the night. Unmissable film-making and acting from everyone involved.
