Review of Doctor Zhivago (1965) by Terry W — 22 Feb 2008
If you're a hopeless romantic, you'll really love this movie. But you don't have to be a hopeless romantic to find this is a great movie. David Lean is one of the great directors of all time.
He is certainly a master of using film in bring the epic to the screen. What he did for sand in Lawrence of Arabia, he does for snow in Zhivago. This is a powerful movie that tries to show the impact of the Russian Revolution on the people of Russia.
I started to give this movie only 41/2 stars because the title character's moral flaw. In retrospect, I realized my initial reaction came from watching the movie with my wife. A great movie with great acting, great scenes, great cinematography, extraordinary story, and a fantastic score.
