Review of Doctor Zhivago (1965) by Nick B — 21 Nov 2011
What a beautiful and complicated movie.... Marie kept asking "wait, whats going on?" and I was right there with her.... all I could say is its Russian so its complicated and layered.... its set against the backdrop of the Russian revolution and has imperfect characters trying to make the best of a tumultuous time.
... we watched the extras feature on it and they were saying how it would probably not be made now because of the affair between the main characters - they would feel audiences wouldn't like these people.
.. but I'm glad they made it and that Alec Guinness, Rod Steiger, Julie Christie, and Omar Sharif were so brilliant in it.... sometimes it just takes your breath away watching a truly epic film that doesn't hold back at anything :).
