Review of Doctor Zhivago (1965) by Kim B — 05 Jul 2015
I found the entire film too long and with too little action or plot to justify it. Most of the movie was confusing with little backstory as to what was going on in history during the time or to the many different long/changing name characters.
Every time something dramatic in history or the story would appear to be happening, the film would gloss over it as well. It kinda got better as it went on, but not really and for all its epic qualities it really didn't pack an emotional punch; like epics usually do.
The acting, scenery (wonderful Ice land), music, outfits were great, but no depth. I didn't care for the love story or main characters. Why doesn't he even try to find his family again/what happened to Laura's child/why did Lara's mom try to kill herself? So many unanswered questions with this film.
I feel there is a much better story to be told about that time and Russian ppl and this film just doesn't do justice by a long shot. How do u make a movie about the soviet revolution boring, idk but this movie accomplishes it.
Movies like this frustrate the crap out of me- all the ingredients and no substance And so overrated.
