Review of Doctor Who (1996) by Matt M — 24 Jul 2007
This was a strangely...this was just plainly strange. The elements I didn't like were how this movie had way too much information to try to bring to an audience. Almost like a bad pilot for the most part.
The Master character had his moments, but didn't have the amazing flare of the past incarnations. Like many have said before, there was a heavy hand of American influence. Now that is out of the way, the movie is a very well brought transition period of the past style to the new current look and feel.
The plot was still whacky as ever. Paul McGann did a splendid job with what he had. Personally, I would have loved to see where he and the gorgeous Tardis would go. Oh well, that's left now to comic book readers.
Again, the Tardis from the inside looked amazing. Also, I thoroughly enjoyed the homage to Tom Baker with Paul looking at the scarf. Clearly this was not the best of Doctor Who, but still has some redeeming merits which should be enjoyed.
