Review of Doctor Who (1996) by August H — 11 Oct 2007
The Fox, Doctor Who, TV Movie. Wow. If this pilot had taken off, I shudder to think where the series might have gone with this somewhat embarrassing effort. The good things in it are the acting; especially Paul McGann! The visual effects are quite wonderful too.
Other than that there isn't much to say about this story. I think why this show really fails is that it tries to americanize the too much and it tries to make the Doctor human, literally! In this story, it is revealed that, The Doctor, is half human.
That just doesn't sit right with any fiber of my being, and fortunately, the show hasn't even hinting at this revelation since. Hopefully it will be forgotten. For any Doctor Who fan, I wouldn't recommend this first, but eventually, see it, watch and have fun.
