Review of Doctor Who (1996) by Miles C — 05 Jan 2013
As a major fan of Doctor Who I was sadly a bit disapointed with the film. The film is good for people who haven't seen any Doctor Who before, but as a continuation of the series it is bad. A British Doctor Who (Paul McGann/Sylvester McCoy) combines with a whole array of America/Canadian Actors to try and save the world.
When it was released in USA, It didn't go down well. I think the downside was that the BBC, a television company was combining with Universal Studios & 20th Century Fox to create a TV Movie. Too many people were involved and the fact that it was produced in Canada & USA for a british audience let it down a bit. If you are a newcomer to Doctor Who, start off with Series 1 (2005) as it is a revival and continuation of the series and you don't need to know anything beforehand.
