Review of Doctor Sleep (2019) by Kirkender — 05 Apr 2020
Doctor Sleep isn't a good movie, but I want to love it. Everything about it technically works and is technically exciting, but the execution falters. The performances are wonderful, the script is okay, the direction is competent.
It is both excruciatingly slow and packed with story, making for an experience that is hard to enjoy. I think in trying to meld the excellent Kubrick Shining with Stephen King's versions for a sequel just makes it a bit much, though I respect the attempt.
If somehow this could be 90 minutes I'd probably like it a lot, but 2 1/2 hours (or 3 for the directors cut) is just too long.
