Review of Do the Right Thing (1997) by Anna B — 23 Dec 2013
Kind of annoying that Lee's bad acting is front-and-centre with Mookie as the main character, and, as in the superficially similar Boyz n the Hood, the script and original score occasionally descend into preachiness and sentimentality respectively.
Unlike that film, however, this doesn't purport to be a representation of reality, and is much better for it (it's also technically and artistically superior in every way, so there's really no comparison, but whatever, I'm doing it anyway); this is a heightened allegory, and an entertaining one at that.
