Review of Do the Right Thing (1989) by Daniel A — 29 Oct 2011
A pulsating and kinetic piece of cinema that wears its heart on its sleeve, and still feels incredibly full of life more than 20 years after its release. Do The Right Thing has a message to convey, and thanks to Spike Lee's golden touch, does so with style, clarity and great dignity.
Avoiding so many of the pitfalls that often come with 'race' movies, this is a compelling and overwhelmingly authentic work, overflowing with memorable characters and fine performances. In spite of its heavy themes, there's not an ounce of contrivance or off-putting preachiness within the screenplay.
Do The Right Thing is a great movie that remains well-worth seeking out.
