Review of Django (1966) by Nick S — 07 May 2009
I like this a lot! As Westerns go this one certainly ranks right up there with the classics. Django himself isn't much different in terms of his Clint Eastwood-esque nature but it still doesn't diminish his impact on screen.
The film provides what I can only describe as one of the coolest occurances ever on film, where Django waits patiently for his foes to come toward him, before opening his coffin and whipping out somekind of machine gun which kills pretty much everyone within his eyesight.
Get in. Another thing that really strikes me about the film is it's darkness compared to say, Leone's classics. The ear cutting stuff (Tarantino basically stole this for Reservior Dogs), the coffin, the broken fingers, the violence, it's good shit if you ask me.
The dubbed dialogue is a bit, well, it's really quite funny. There's not a hell of a lot wrong with this film at all though. Well worth a watch.
