Review of Dixie Chicks: Shut Up and Sing (2006) by Alicia C — 15 Aug 2007

It starts off promisingly enough, as a documentary on freedom of speech and its intersection with the politics of Bush and the Iraq War. It is, however, a good concept stretched way too thin over its excessively long running time.

Soon enough it devolves into a family-style video complete with baby ultrasound scans, halloween parties, and horse-riding montages. Which are completely pointless to the thrust of the film and seem more like filler footage.

While I admire them for their courage, the lead singer Natalie Maines loses my sympathy by mistaking obnoxious stubborness for firm principles.
