Review of Dixie Chicks: Shut Up and Sing (2006) by Corey O — 25 Oct 2007
You don't have to like the Dixie Chicks. You don't have to agree with what Natalie Maines said, and you don't have to think that it was right for her to say it when and where she did. But it's hard *not* to respect these women for sticking up for themselves and managing to navigate their career through the maelstrom of bad press and irate fans that Maines's comment prompted.
This documentary does an admirable job of putting her statement in context and showing everything these women endured in the past few years - the effects of the media, the protesters, the death threats, and the constant possibility of the end of their highly successful career.
