Review of Dixie Chicks: Shut Up and Sing (2006) by Aaron M — 19 Oct 2008

This was an interesting doc to me on a few levels...not the least of which includes that there are people in the music industry that appear in this doc that I have actually worked with and that I know personally.

Here is what I will say about this brilliant documentary. Prior to watching this I barely knew anything about the Dixie Chicks and I certainly cared less about their music. After having seen this, I went out and bought their entire catalog on sheer principle and now consider myself to be a huge fan.

It is really quite disgusting what these women were put through for saying one off the cuff sentence during a concert. It should have been what it was...harmless and not even noteworthy. This doc showcases how deadly the media can be, how shallow radio.

..and in particular COUNTRY radio is...and worst of all, this showcases the ugliness of the human spirit. I'm sorry....a death threat for saying something so utterly meaningless in the grand scheme of things? UGLY.

And it is totally ridiculous that something so silly could turn all these execs, and industry reps and so called fans against them. People need to learn how to think for themselves and stop being sheep.

The funny part is....5 years later, and now I'm betting most of the country would have to admit that they were right about Bush and right about the war...even if those people didn't want to. Furthermore, I am from Texas.

..and I happen to agree with them. I too am VERY ashamed that Bush is from Texas!!! Fuck him. I cant wait to spend my money on the next Dixie Chicks tour.
