Review of Disco Pigs (2001) by Alyssa L — 20 Sep 2007
A strange tale of friendship. love, growing up, and tragedy the story follows two Irish teenagers, Pig and Runt, as they come of age. Born only a few minutes apart in the same hospital, the two formed a bond as infants and never really associated with anyone else. No one understands them and they are ripped apart - that is when Runt discovers life outside the world she and Pig created, and Pig goes crazy.
At first I found the film average. I thought the story line was great, but something was missing for me. Then the ending came and moved me to tears, literally! The ending made everything make sense in a tragic sort of way, and it really made the film complete.
The acting was great from both leads. The story is moving. The thick Irish accents are hard to understand in places, so if you're a fan of crystal clear dialogue you might want to skip this one. This is not for the light at heart. It's a dark and tragic film, disturbing in areas, and for those who like dark content only.
