Review of Disco Pigs (2001) by Cody M — 24 May 2010
I can't imagine why this was rated so low. Although bizarre and dark and difficult to understand at certain points, it is crafted beautifully by everyone involved. The stand-out here is clearly Cillian Murphy.
You never once doubt the genuine love Pig feels for Runt, which is why through all of his obsessive and increasingly out-of-control violent behavior you still feel bad for him. You see the one thing he lives for slipping away from him and you can't help but hurt for him a bit.
That's where I think the movie is so interesting. That it can simultaneously pull so many conflicting emotions from you at once without becoming too overwhelming or unrealistic is pretty impressive, and makes the experience watching it wonderful.
