Review of Disco Pigs (2001) by Mark N — 01 May 2012
It's obvious that this originated as a stage-play and little surprise the Murphy originated his role there too. The opening scenes are very nicely shot and constructed but as the movie goes on it becomes much more workmanlike as the characters and dialogue become the heart of the piece. And heart is what it is all about. The skill in making underprivileged and nihilistic teenagers identifiable and charming in their violent rebellion is masterful.
Murphy and Cassidy are perfectly cast and do an incredible job of giving nuance in characters who feed off each other to the neglect of anyone else. Moving and powerful it's easy to see why Murphy is where he is today and Cassidy is still rising.
